Bone forms biological bond with dental implants

Dental implants have been in use for more than three decades and over the years they have become a more affordable treatment option. Dental implants can be used to substitute one, two or even a full arch of missing teeth.

Many patients choose implants because they allow them to smile with confidence, eat the foods they like, and also because they are more secure and less invasive towards their healthy teeth as any other solution used to substitute missing teeth.

Benefits of Having Implants

Replacing teeth with implants has several major advantages over traditional methods.

Implants not only resemble a natural tooth but also feel and function like one.
No adjacent teeth need to be "cut back" during the procedure.
The implant replaces the root of the tooth, allowing the bone to be preserved.
They help to prevent bone collapse and improve long-term aesthetics.
Implants are an excellent way to close the gap left by the loss of a single tooth, both aesthetically and functionally. If the gap is not filled, other teeth may move and tilt forward into the space, causing crowding and lengthening of existing teeth

Implants are an excellent alternative to traditional methods in these cases as well. The implants act as additional supporting abutments for carrying a bridge and thus do not damage adjacent teeth.

Implants Process

01
Getting the Jaw Ready for Implantation
After drilling the initial pilot hole into the appropriate jaw site, the hole is slowly widened to allow placement of the implant screw. Once the implant screw is in place, the surrounding gum tissue is secured over it and a protective cover screw is placed on top to allow the site to heal and Osseo integration to take place. Your dentist will uncover the implant and attach an abutment after it has healed for up to six months (which holds the crown or tooth-like replacement). The abutment may be attached during the first procedure in some cases. Once the abutment is in place, your dentist will create either a temporary or permanent crown. The final crown can sometimes be made on the same day that the abutment is placed.

Duration: How Long Will It Take?

This treatment is carried out over a number of months. The initial appointment will establish whether you are a good candidate for implants. Your dental health, the amount of bone in the area, and your overall health and wellness will all be evaluated by the dentist.

You can book your first appointment if it is decided that you are a good candidate for the treatment. The initial procedure is to put a post into the jaw bone, which will serve as the tooth replacement's "root." Then, once the post is in place, you will have to wait a few months. During this time, the body fortifies the post's placement by growing supporting bone in the area. Depending on your individual situation, this waiting period could be anywhere from three to six months.

The permanent crown is set on top of the post at the final appointment. Before the crown can be installed, you may need to return to the dentist for a few check-ups. The dentist must ensure that the post is robust enough to support the crown.

What Do Implants Cost?

Implants can also be used to fix dentures and bridges, making them more secure and comfortable allowing patients to chew and smile as with their natural teeth. The value of dental implants far exceeds conventional treatment options. Generally the cost of a single crown implant at Huntly Dental Practice starts at £165 per month on 0% APR over 12 months.

Financing options are available and payments can be adjusted according to your budget.
