Huntly Dental Practice won the Most Improved Practice Award at the Dentistry Scotland Awards 2015! Huntly Dental Practice is one of the oldest established dental practices in the Grampian region and it is Huntly’s oldest established dental surgery having served the people of Huntly for more than 50 years now. Mr Navin Aziz took over the practice in 2009 from the two previous dental owners who had spent 35 years providing care for the local community.
Before Mr Aziz took over the practice consisted of two surgeries and all the facilities were very small and insufficient to meet the latest. NHS Grampian were extremely concerned that the previous owner would not be able to find a buyer and as such the business would have closed jeopardising the care of more than 7,300 patients registered at the practice.
Mr Aziz wanted to provide the very best care for the community and has renovated the practice and not only refurbished the two surgeries, but has built additional three, making it a five surgery practice today. Currently, the practice has two waiting rooms, five state of the art surgeries all equipped with digital x-ray, LDU, and staff facilities. Today, all five (two ground floor and three first floor surgeries) have disabled access, and there is also a disabled toilet and baby changing unit in the practice. Further to this he has also significantly improved the staff facilities, adding separate male and female changing rooms, a staff toilet, and a kitchen/dining area which is also used as a conference room. Mr Aziz did not only renovate the practice, he changed the future of the practice and the way it serves the community and surrounding areas.
In order to improve the service and to provide better access to the community, especially to those who commute to the surrounding larger towns, Mr Aziz made the innovative decision to open the surgery from 8:00am to 8:00pm Monday to Thursday and 8:00am to 6:00pm on Friday’s. He was the first practice to offer such extended opening hours and patients have found this to be extremely helpful.
In today’s fast paced world most of the communication happens online, it was essential for the practice to adjust to these changes. Therefore, the practice now is very active on social media, particularly Facebook, providing the opportunity for patients to connect with the practice outside of the premises. The practice’s website also provides prospective patients with the ability to register with us online, filling in a registration form, and then we promise to get in touch with the registered patients within one working day to arrange their initial examination appointments. Our email service goes by the same rule, we reply within one working day. We also provide free Wi-Fi in our waiting rooms and an SMS appointment reminder system. The Wi-Fi was requested by patients via our Opinion Box as mobile reception service in Huntly isn’t sufficient. We listened and the Wi-Fi was up and running within a month’s time.
